Our Story

Art Café started in 2015, aiming to promote art and culture through food, music, clothing, and more in the quaint town of Kalimpong.

FOUNDERS

Art Cafe was founded in 2015 by Yachna Rizal and Pravesh Chhetri, driven by their shared passion for food, culture, and art. Their travels have deeply influenced the cafe, with each experience serving as inspiration for the atmosphere and flavors reflected in everything offered at Art Cafe.

OUR FAMILY

The team at Art Café is the heart and soul of everything we do. Their dedication, whether in the smallest tasks or the biggest efforts, is what truly shapes the atmosphere and spirit of our café. Each person's contribution makes it the special place. We are fortunate to have gathered a team full of heart, dedicated to caring for the Kalimpong community. Some of our team members have been with us for 9 years, and although we come from diverse backgrounds, we all feel at home together at Art Cafe.

A time away from screens is what we wish to provide to the little guests in our kids area - Whimsy Nook & Storybook. Our aim is to try and encourage play and for that we have placed books and toys for kids to play with, along with seatings where elders can order and overlook the kids.

We are also hosting workshops specifically for kids that is currently taking place every Sunday.

Long before it became the kothey we know and love, it was guotie—born in the kitchens of Northern China. Legend has it, a cook accidentally let dumplings stick to the wok… and history was made. Crisp on the bottom, soft on top, they were lovingly named “potstickers.”

The dish traveled across borders and generations carrying with it the essence of home, comfort, and shared tables. Today, it has become one of the popular dishes in both our Kalimpong and Kolkata outlets.

The kothey that we make holds that same generational spirit and with a touch of our in-house chili oil that blends perfectly with this dish, the story lives on...
